Commercials interest me. Most irritate. Some nauseate, especially when much-loved music is used. Lately I’ve been hearing lots of Motown and R&B in ads. Sixties and seventies. Did I miss the revival? Then tonight “Get Ready” is whored to motivate the sale, I think, of eyewear. IDK. The music takes hold completely and obliterates the rest. No sale here. What of those who never heard this music? Have ad people discovered Motown sells? God forbid.
“Get ready” was written by Smokey Robinson and first performed by the Temptations. The tune is hot and has been covered many. Rare Earth’s cover, however, is most awesome. Rare Earth was the first successful act signed by Motown that consisted only of white members.. #4 on the US charts. The full version is over twenty minutes on vinyl and can run longer live. In live performances each group member did a solo piece. This recording is more than three-minute single but much, much less developed than the full load. The wild man on drums is Eddie Guzman!! Used to get lost in this. Bang my head. Move.
