Amazing Porcelain Skulls: All I Can Say Is Wow!
08/24/2011 - 11:00 am By Richard DarellCreativity can be such a productivity booster, but it can also be the devil for our to-do list if we are constantly thinking up new and cool ideas that will totally obliterate our schedule since it will take us forever to finish whatever it is we have come up with. I usually find myself penning down at least a handful of ideas on Post-It notes every day just because I want to look over them during the evening when I enter the second stage of working on things. I can then go through the ideas and somehow look at them objectively to decide whether they are good or not. I have found that doing it that way is way more inspiring than actually waving off any ideas right when I get them.
I don’t know how porcelain artist Katsuyo Aoki approached the idea of creating these porcelain skulls that will probably make everyone’s eyes pop out of their sockets, but the whole thing must have taken forever to put together. Forget any kind of doodle or intricate illustration I might have mentioned before because this thing is far beyond any kind of creativity you can imagine. Just have a look at the three skulls and tell me you are not impressed.
I have never even seen anything like it. Not only must it have taken a lifetime to sculpt, but just to harden that thing in an oven must have been one of the most nervous and heart stressing experiences anyone working with clay must have ever gone through. Busting that into the oven only to have it crack can’t be the happiest of experiences. However, clearly that didn’t happen and the result is just amazing in every sense of the word. I don’t even want to use the word amazing as I feel it’s too inaccurate for this kind of awesomeness!
