Did the Media Report these Inaugural Events?

Because a sustainable future depends on the people willing to see the truth for what it is, and for those to stand up in unison in order to make a difference.

Inauguration Day coverage in the corporate media was full of smiles and celebration. Those who watched might think that everything was great. The corporate media failed to report on those who expressed dissent about the direction the country is headed.  In fact, MSNBC told its viewers there were no protests. We want to recognize those who showed up because they believe, as Howard Zinn said, "dissent is the highest form of patriotism."

The ‘Arc of Justice’ rally and march honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by urging an end to war, cutting military spending, freeing Bradley Manning and building a full employment economy, as well as highlighting other issues where the Obama administration failed in its first term. In this photo, you will see many friends from Freedom Plaza including Vets for Peace.

Opponents of GMO foods protested for GMO-free foods, or at a minimum labeling of GMO-containing foods. President Obama appointed a food czar who is a former Monsanto executive.

There was a Drone Die-In to protest President Obama’s aggressive use of drones that is killing thousands, including many civilians, women and children in places where we have not declared war.

And Anarchists came out with messages that included “Don’t Vote, Organize” and “We can Move Forward Without Government”

While the DC police walked with Anarchists through the streets, close behind were tanks. Did the corporate media report that there were tanks in the streets of DC during the inauguration?

Jewish Voice for Peace held a protest during inauguration weekend against continued funding of Israel for their illegal settlements in Palestinian territory.

And CODE PINK brought people together with the beautiful anti-violence message “Arms are for Hugging”

Here are some upcoming events of note:

Mountain top removal opponents are escalating their tactics and having a good time doing it. RAMPS is joining with Veterans for Peace and others to protest Peabody Coal in St. Louis on January 25th.

You can participate in a VIA22 Global Assembly – January 22nd, 2013 held by international conference call.

And, this weekend is the Occupy New England Regional Gathering

There has been a lot more going on with the student movement, Idle No More, lawsuits filed by occupiers – and even more, just stroll down the front page of October2011/OccupyWashingtonDC and see how the movement for transformation continues.

Thanks for all you do!

In peace and solidarity,
Margaret, Kevin and October2011/Occupy Washington, DC
