Dear Friends at Noisebridge, Ace Monster Toys, Sudo Room, Tokyo Hackerspace & everyone worldwide at hackerspaces.org:
After 9 months of incubation, Mothership HackerMoms have opened a sweet little hackerspace in Berkeley, California. We are the first women's hackerspace ever in history, no kidding. Why moms? Non-moms can join your spaces, but creative moms need childcare, which we offer along with time and space, and a kid-friendly space where little ones can learn from our creative action. Support and interest has been terrific. Our doors opened last week at 3288 Adeline, Berkeley 94703. Now we're moving in, getting nonprofit, moving our starter site to Drupal (thanks to a cool hacking grandma), working on a Kickstarter, figuring out membership, collecting equipment donations and startup cash donations. Also you're invited to our bubblicious, hula-hooping Grand Opening Benefit on May 26-27!
We heart your awesome spaces and welcome input as we get going. (Like how do we get great equipment?!? We're empty.) We're so thrilled to be part of the worldwide hackerspace community, and can't wait to see what unique spin we women put on hacker culture. Our grand vision is to spawn more female hackerspaces across the world! So pass the word on! Visit our weekly open house on Wed mornings 10am-12pm or Thurs nights 6-8pm. Let us know if you have any questions. And yes, dads are welcome!
Alive and kicking,
Sho-Sho Smith & the HackerMoms

The mothership has landed at 3288 Adeline St., Berkeley CA 94703! Mothership HackerMoms* just-opened the first all-women's hackerspace,* a 1000 square feet of fun. Our 10 founding members really believe in this venture to support mothers.* Right now, we're moving in, getting nonprofit status and signage, working on our Kickstarter, figuring out membership, redesigning our site, collecting equipment/furniture/toy donations -- and also Good Luck Startup donations. (See yellow Donate button at http://mothership.hackermoms.org/). If you can sweeten the $300 we have in the bank, we'll call you Sugardaddy. Pass the word! Visit us! Join us!
Our weekly open house starts this Wed morning 4/4 at 10am-12pm. Next week it's Thurs night 4/12 at 6-8 pm, and alternates like that. Open houses always have $5/hr childcare, with RSVP. Come socialize, bring a project or do workshops, like Making the Killer Hula Hoop, Sport Hooping Choreography, and Knitting baby booby hats.
* HACKERMOM That’s you. Creative, curious, inventive, indie, artsy/craftsy/designy/techy, visionary, outspoken, scrappy, hot, hands-on, mover and maker of any age.
* HACKERSPACE Creative space where do-it-yourselfers share tools, intelligence & community.
* Here's why we made this. Though products are plenty, there are so few services truly help a mother’s quality of life. Our hackerspace gives mothers the time and space to get creative with DIY craft and design, hacker/maker culture, entrepreneurship, and all manner of creative expression. We provide on-site childcare every time we meet, which lets our kids learn by watching us make friends and cool stuff.
POWER TO THE MOTHERS!
