Poetry and Science

Pastedgraphic-1
Wow. How times have changed. Passion, emotion, romance and love are merely manifestations of chemicals and electrical activity. Science has defined, mystery solved. And beauty. Beauty is truth, and truth beauty. lol. Google the term. Most of the stuff I saw revolved around cosmetology, not cosmology. Beauty is a product. Finally, poetry. Dead. Perhaps to most. Time-wasting puzzles. But there are lively discussions in scientific and literary communities focused on Science and Poetry. All agree the two are connected, but... je ne sais quoi. Very frustrating to the fact people: beyond facts there is an uncomfortable haze, an uncontrollable nothing.
Both Science and Poetry, however, are animated by discovery and metaphor. Both tolerate uncertainty. Humanity, I believe, goes far beyond the Fact. We yearn for more than factual descriptions of the world around us. Most of us intuitively see our "essence" and that of those around us as more than mere chemistry and genetic determinism. And the truth is that we no much less than we know. Poetry at its best gives form to the indescribable, the unknown. So does Science. Science was born in Poetry. Science is fueled by myth and magic and will never really factualize the unknown. Honor the poet and shaman at least as much as you value the engineer and scientist.
