What does it take to motivate citizens to move towards a more sustainable, earth-friendly way of life? Or even discuss it? The environment was not on anyone's agenda this election year. I've heard few people complain that discussion of global warming and other ecological disasters were dropped from Presidential debate agendas and political positioning, eg, "...where do you stand on environmental issues president-wanna-be..........?" Some mass denial mechanism? Environmental action will diminish the "American Dream?" Better to be a toxic mutant than be carless?:) Not good for Business? I don't understand this communal denial phenomenon. It's not like "death" which we've managed eliminate from thought or view. Can't stop death. Not so with the environment. We may have time to reverse the bad practices of the past.
