Google Earth Penis Prank: A Classic That Never Gets Old
Warning: This article is not NSFW (to me) but it does contain penis pictures. If a 60-foot penis offends you, this post might not be for you. Yesterday Richard wrote an article about
, which is a super funny viral video of a guy who gets pranked, frustrated and videotaped in the bathroom while he’s innocently taking a shower. It’s funny, but if I ever had friends who did that to me, I’d bonk them upside the head. I know that when we get our Bit Rebels office, I’m going to be constantly looking over my shoulder at Richard because he’s a big fan of pranks. I’m sure he’ll cook up some good ones to pull on Misty and me.Today I want to share with you one of my favorite pranks of all time. I’ve written about pranks before because there are just so many good ones out there, but this one is one I’ll always remember. It’s a classic that truly never gets old. It’s affectionately called the Google Earth penis prank.
Back in 2009, some students at
in Hamilton, New Zealand decided to have some fun. They first found out when the Google Earth satellites were going to be photographing their school. Then they got some heavy-duty weed killer to use for their mischievous prank. They took the weed killer to the school on the weekend and drew six humongous penises in the grass. They were brilliantly able to figure out how long it would take for the grass to die (thus outlining the penises from afar) in relation to when the pictures would be taken.Of course, the principal and parents were outraged (lighten up people!). School officials tried to cover it up by spreading around even more weed killer, but the damage was already done. They tried to get the pictures removed from Google Earth, but unlike Google Street view pictures which can be blurred for privacy, these cannot be removed or blurred. Some articles online say the kids were caught, but most say they were never caught. Hey, at least they put their fun school on the map, literally.
