Activision (finally) starts talking about Modern Warfare 3
May 16, 2011 | Anthony HaAfter months of speculation and leaks, video game publisher Activision Blizzard has finally released some official information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the latest installment of the blockbuster combat franchise whose previous two releases were the biggest-selling video games of all time.Specifically, Activision has launched a Facebook page and YouTube channel for the next game, with short teaser videos. The videos seem to confirm an earlier report in Kotaku that the game would feature combat in a number of cities around the world, including New York, London, and Paris. That could mean more controversy for a series that has already seen its fair share, if the storyline hews too close to real terrorist attacks.
One thing that’s missing from Activision Blizzard’s official material is a launch date. However, an earlier rumor placed the launch date on Nov. 8, and IGN spotted an Australian poster listing Nov. 8. The game’s Amazon.com page lists that date as well. That means the publisher’s contract dispute with studio Infinity Ward hasn’t delayed the company’s pattern of releasing a new Call of Duty game every November.
You can expect Activision Blizzard will share many more details at the E3 video game conference in June.
